The push towards robust cyberinfrastructures in Latin America and the Caribbean represents a significant step forward for the region&#8217;s scientific and technological landscape, with an <b>essential impact<\/b>\u00a0on productive activities and quality of life. However, there exist\u00a0challenges to observe:\u00a0<b>Funding and Investment<\/b>,\u00a0<b>Infrastructure Disparities,\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0<b>Policy and Governance Gaps.<\/b>\u00a0By addressing the challenges and leveraging the opportunities, Latin America can enhance its global competitiveness and contribute to solving pressing international issues.\u00a0<\/div><div>\u00a0<\/div><div>SCALAC contributes to treating these challenges and sees opportunities based on common interests. In this talk, more than the present SCALAC, a status of capabilities in robust infrastructures will be presented (without forgetting the social impact), and an overview and trends observed in\u00a0the region&#8217;s diversity in terms of robust infrastructures will be discussed, taking the state consigned in the white papers and officials reports for the Latin America and the Caribbean region, including capabilities, uses, trends, community involved and perspectives.<\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a554df8 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a554df8\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>Bio<\/strong><br \/><br \/>Professor Barrios is a systems engineer from the Industrial University of Santander (Bucaramanga, Colombia), holds a master&#8217;s degree in applied mathematics and computer science from the University of Grenoble &#8211; Alpes (Grenoble, France), and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Nice-C\u00f4te d&#8217;Azur (Nice, France), which he obtained with the distinction &#8220;very honorable&#8221; for his work on a national French project between INRIA (National Institute for Research in Computer Science and Automation), the Grenoble Informatics Laboratory (LIG), and the Laboratory of Informatics, Systems and Signals of Sophia Antipolis (I3S). He has been a visiting researcher at the Institute of Informatics of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil, the Barcelona Supercomputing Center in Spain, the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in Trieste, Italy, the University of Luxembourg\u2019s Institute of Technologies, among others, and collaborates with several international companies such as NVIDIA, Intel, HPE, IBM, Atos-BULL, and Ecopetrol, among others. He has also created and led courses and conferences on HPC (such as SC-CAMP, CLCAR, and CARLA) and participates in various scientific and technological associations worldwide (SIGHPC-ACM, TCC-IEEE) related to scalable architectures and high-performance computing. Additionally, he has served as a scientific and technological consultant on various HPC projects in Latin America, including the ABACUS project of CINVESTAV-IPN in Mexico. He is currently a research professor at the Industrial University of Santander in Bucaramanga, Colombia, and a consultant through the ICT Think Tank for Colombian government affairs via the Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies (MinTIC) of the Colombian Government.
